Your Day to Day
As an Assistant HR Manager, you will play a key role in supporting the day-to-day delivery of the hotel's People & Culture strategy and HR operations. Working closely with colleagues, managers, and department leaders, you will help create an engaging, inclusive, and high-performing workplace while ensuring that HR practices are consistently aligned with hotel, IHG, and local requirements.
The successful candidate will be a confident HR professional who combines strong employee relations skills with sound knowledge of HR operations, recruitment, colleague engagement, performance management, and talent development.
Key Responsibilities Included:
- Support the effective day-to-day operation of the Human Resources function.
- Ensure HR policies, procedures, and processes are consistently implemented across the hotel.
- Provide guidance to managers and colleagues on HR policies, procedures, benefits, and employment-related matters.
- Maintain accurate and confidential colleague records and ensure HR documentation is complete and up to date.
- Support the preparation of HR reports, statistics, and workforce analysis as required.
- Ensure HR systems and colleague information are maintained accurately and in a timely manner.
- Support the implementation of IHG People & Culture initiatives and hotel-specific HR priorities.
- Assist with audits and ensure HR practices remain compliant with applicable legislation and company requirements.
- Act as a trusted point of contact for colleagues and managers on day-to-day employee relations matters.
- Support managers in addressing performance, attendance, conduct, grievance, and other employee relations matters fairly and consistently.
- Conduct or support colleague meetings, investigations, and disciplinary processes in line with hotel policies and local legislation.
- Promote an open-door culture and encourage colleagues to raise concerns and feedback appropriately.
- Support initiatives that strengthen colleague engagement, wellbeing, recognition, and retention.
- Monitor colleague feedback and identify opportunities to improve the overall employee experience.
- Promote the hotel's values and IHG's culture and behaviours throughout the colleague journey.
- Support the end-to-end recruitment process for assigned positions.
- Work closely with department heads to understand vacancies, profiles, and recruitment requirements.
- Screen candidates, coordinate interviews, participate in assessments, and provide HR recommendations where required.
- Support the preparation and issuance of employment offers in line with approved budgets and policies.
- Coordinate pre-employment documentation, medical requirements, references, and other onboarding requirements.
- Ensure new colleagues receive a smooth and engaging onboarding experience.
- Maintain an active understanding of the local talent market and support initiatives to attract high-quality candidates.
- Promote internal mobility and career opportunities where appropriate.
- Support the implementation of the hotel's performance management processes.
- Guide managers and colleagues on goal setting, performance reviews, development plans, and performance improvement processes.
- Monitor completion of performance-related activities and follow up with departments where required.
- Support talent identification, succession planning, and career development initiatives.
- Work closely with Learning & Development to identify development opportunities based on business and colleague needs.
- Encourage a culture of continuous feedback, coaching, and professional development.
- Support internal career movement and development opportunities across the hotel.
- Support the planning and implementation of colleague engagement initiatives and activities.
- Contribute to employee engagement surveys and action planning.
- Support recognition programmes and colleague appreciation initiatives.
- Assist in organising colleague events, celebrations, wellbeing activities, and communication campaigns.
- Work with the People & Culture team to promote wellbeing and a positive workplace culture.
- Encourage colleague participation in hotel and IHG initiatives.
- Ensure HR practices are aligned with IHG policies, hotel procedures, and applicable local employment legislation.
- Maintain confidentiality and appropriate handling of sensitive colleague information.
- Support HR audits and ensure required documentation and records are maintained.
- Monitor attendance, leave, and other employment-related matters and highlight areas requiring management attention.
- Support the consistent application of hotel policies and procedures across all departments.
- Provide managers with appropriate HR guidance while escalating complex matters to the HR leadership team when required.
- Build strong working relationships with General Managers, Department Heads, managers, and colleagues across the hotel.
- Partner with operational leaders to understand business needs and provide practical HR solutions.
- Communicate HR initiatives, policies, and changes clearly and effectively.
Represent the Human Resources function professionally and maintain a high level of confidentiality and integrity.
What We Are Looking For
- Previous experience in an Assistant HR Manager, HR Business Partner, or similar HR role, preferably within a hotel or hospitality environment.
- Previous experience in a luxury or five-star hotel environment is an advantage.
- Strong knowledge of HR operations and employee relations.
- Practical experience in recruitment and talent acquisition.
- Good understanding of performance management, colleague engagement, and HR policies.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build credibility at all levels of the organization.
- Confident advising managers and handling sensitive employee relations matters.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- High level of integrity, confidentiality, and professional judgement.
- Proactive approach with the ability to identify issues and provide practical solutions.
- Good knowledge of Microsoft Office and HR systems.
- Strong English communication skills; additional languages are an advantage.
- Degree or qualification in Human Resources, Business Administration, Hospitality Management, or a related field is preferred.
