Duties and Responsibilities
As a Boat Crew, I will assume full responsibility for the efficient operation in the following:
- Steer and operate vessels, using radios, depth finders, radars, lights, buoys, and lighthouses.
- Compute positions, set courses, and determine speeds, by using charts, area plotting sheets, compasses, sextants, and knowledge of local conditions.
- Inspect vessels to ensure efficient and safe operation of vessels and equipment, and conformance to regulations.
- Measure depths of water, using depth-measuring equipment.
- Direct and coordinate crew members or hosts performing activities such as loading and unloading cargo, steering vessels, operating engines, and operating, maintaining, and repairing ship equipment.
- Monitor the loading and discharging of cargo or passengers.
- Calculate sightings of land, using electronic sounding devices, and following contour lines on charts.
- Signal passing vessels, using whistles, flashing lights, flags, and radios.
- Maintain boats and equipment on board, such as engines, winches, navigational systems, fire extinguishers, and life preservers.
- Complete daily engine checks, i.e., oil, filters and sumps.
- Pump out the holding tanks.
- Signal crew members or deckhands to rig tow lines, open or close gates and ramps, and pull guard chains across entries.
- Ensure proper transfer of guests when requested and escort guests accordingly.
- Maintain the cleanliness of the boat and ensure they are in good working condition.
- Offer assistance to guests when requested.
- Coordinate with departments for transfer related issues and assist guests with transfers to and from the hotel if needed.
- Greet and welcome guests upon arrival to the resort and bid farewell upon departure
- Ensure a timely and efficient transfer of guests’ luggage.
- Handle guest inquiries by providing accurate and appropriate information.
- Bring immediately to the Security for any item(s) left behind from guests.
- Be fully conversant with all health and safety, fires and emergency procedures
- Attend meetings and training as required by supervisors.
- Upkeep Six Senses guidelines and standards of service and operation. My performance benchmarks are maintained and exceeded.
- Strictly adhere to LQA standards and guest comments.
- Perform any additional tasks given to me by supervisor/management.
Qualifications
To execute the position of Boat Crew, I must have the required qualifications, technical skills and experience in a similar role in luxury hotels with proven results and includes the following:
- High school diploma or equivalent and at least 2 years’ experience in a similar hotel operational setting. Hospitality diploma/degree from a recognized hospitality school is preferred.
- Fluent in English
