Your day to day
IHG Academy is our work experience programme, that provides skills, development and employment opportunities to thousands of people, every year, from all walks of life. IHG Academy helps people to gain some of the fundamental skills and experience of working in a leading hospitality company.
The development and learning of our future generation of hoteliers is very important to us. Your needs are at the forefront of what we do, so we set out a structured, multi-layered approach to learning, which includes gaining exposure into key departments within the hotel and working on your personal development.
We know that at this stage, you’re probably still learning about the type of work that interests you, and you may not know whether working in hotels is what you’d like to do. That is why we’ve developed our IHG Academy Work Experience Programme the way that we have, which is to give you a great overview of what life is like working in hotels – to show you how you can have a diverse and fulfilling career in hospitality.
What we need from you
The work experience placement is for 1 year, and it’s a great opportunity to observe, and shadow some of the key functions and departments within the hotel, as well as learning more about Intercontinental Hotels Group (IHG).
At IHG, we have a 3600 approach to learning – helping you to gain essential life-skills during this experience which will benefit you throughout your career, such as team-work and problem-solving.
You will learn professional skills including a “life-like” interview, time-management and working alongside some of our leaders to understand how different departments in a hotel function. We will also assist you in developing your ‘personal skills’ such as communication, working within a team and problem-solving.
We have a range of departments within our hotels that you can gain experience in, including “front of house” roles which look after our guests in our True Hospitality style such as reception or a restaurant outlet; to our “back-office” roles such as HR or Finance which are all imperative to the successful running of the hotel.
