Our housekeepers at IHG keep all aspects of housekeeping and laundry running smoothly - and ensuring high standards are met to deliver memorable and unique guest experiences. Room attendants, as housekeepers are often called, are a critical part of each hotel’s family of staff.

 

Delivering exceptional guest experiences

Our teams make sure the quality of housekeeping and laundry services are superb - we have high standards - but it’s down to our housekeepers to make rooms special and memorable for guests.

We carry out scheduled routine inspections of all guest rooms and public areas to ensure all hotel furnishings, rooms, equipment, linens, public restrooms, lobby, and anything else, are clean and in good repair to meet guest satisfaction.

As part of the housekeeping role, any special requests, for example additional towels or pillows, from all guests including our VIPs, repeat visitors and club members are carried out where possible.

Helping guests with their questions and complaints to achieve complete guest satisfaction is a fundamental part of the housepersons job, and something we pride ourselves on delivering with a smile.

Our housekeepers look smart and wear their uniform with pride.

 

Managing a housekeeping team

Our housekeeper team leaders are responsible for the housekeeping daily activities, planning and assigning work to ensure we always have the right staffing numbers. 

A key part of the role is to develop the team of housekeepers and improve their performance through coaching and feedback, creating performance and development goals, and of course recognising good performance.

Educating and training all team members in compliance with federal, state and local laws and safety regulations is a must for the role, as is ensuring staff are properly trained and have the tools and equipment to carry out job duties.

Our team leaders also assist with deep cleaning projects and/or assist housekeeping staff during high volume periods to ensure our guests experience high standards throughout their stay.  Maintaining proper inventory levels, managing cost per room for supplies and labour ensure our hotels are run to a standard where guests are satisfied.

 

Responsible business

IHG is committed to being environmentally responsible in compliance with relevant laws, and our housekeeping teams maintain and order supplies and equipment whilst minimising waste and maintaining “green” initiatives, for example, container recycling, and cleaning agents.
