Ranjan Banerjee - Winner of The NCPEDP - Mindtree Helen Keller Award 2020

The National Centre for Promotion of Employment for Disabled People (NCPEDP) has conferred the prestigious “ The NCPEDP – Mindtree Hellen Keller Award” for the year 2020 to Mr Ranjan Banerjee, our General Manager for Crowne Plaza, New Delhi Okhla. Ranjan has been awarded this award in the category of Role Model Supporter of Increased Employment Opportunities for persons with Disabilities through his exemplary leadership that has truly lived and displayed the IHG values of Diversity and Inclusion in the workplace.

The National Centre for Promotion of Employment for Disabled People (NCPEDP) is a non-profit voluntary organisation founded in 1996. It works as an interface between various stakeholders including government, industry and civil society organisations (both national and international) for the empowerment of persons with disabilities. NCPEDP has long believed that inclusion at the workplace plays a pivotal role in the accomplishment of equal opportunities for persons with disabilities. Started as a discourse in 1999, NCPEDP launched the Helen Keller Awards to identify exemplary work towards the cause of inclusion. Over many years, these awards have come to be recognised as the most prestigious Indian benchmark for honouring people and organisations that have worked towards a barrier-free, non-discriminatory and inclusive India.

About Ranjan and his team’s contribution towards the cause

Ranjan along with his leadership team at Crowne Plaza Today, New Delhi Okhla, have undertaken several measures and conceptualised innovative ideas to ensure that all our  colleagues with a disability are provided a conducive and supportive environment at their workplace. As a process, it is mandatory for each and every team member to undergo sign language training to ensure seamless on ground integration with all colleagues. Creative IHG video training has also been designed so that all colleagues can learn the ways of working of their respective departments with interest & ease. Special IHG sign language posters have been displayed in the back of the house areas on the hotel premises.

Ranjan ensures regular formal and candid conversation sessions with our team members with disabilities to understand their developments as well as any concerns. Once a year, the hotel also invites all these colleagues with their family members for lunch to celebrate and recognise the outstanding work they have been doing. Ranjan strongly believes that creating a platform of dialogue and appreciation is very important to break the stigma prevalent in society. Ranjan and his team firmly believe that everyone must instil sensitivity towards each other's limitation and learn from each other’s abilities.
