We work closely together with APSN, to provide people with disabilities work-experience, life-skills and job opportunities within our hotels. Through our collaboration with APSN, we've had many successful work placements within our hotels.
Our relationship with APSN is growing stronger, as we continue to build more hotels and expand our brand portfolio, giving us the platform to offer more placement and job opportunities to APSN students. This partnership is a great example of how we can give back to the community in an area where we have expertise.

What did you do during your IHG Academy work experience placement and what did you learn?
General Manager of the Holiday Inn Express Powless House, Garry Dickover, is tremendously proud of his hotel’s work with IHG Academy. "We're delighted to have been named the 600th IHG Academy to open worldwide. Our program gives participants the invaluable experience of working in a hotel and allows them to see first-hand what it takes to deliver Great Hotels Guests Love."
What did you enjoy the most about your IHG Academy work experience placement?
Jane Loud had a fantastic experience as an IHG Academy participant, where she was given the chance to test out many different roles at the Holiday Inn Express Powless. In addition to understanding the different functions of the hospitality industry, Jane had the chance to engage with colleagues at the hotel who took the time to ensure that she had a meaningful experience. "The program took me through all of the different departments and aspects of working in a hotel. Everything I learned was invaluable, from being on reception, housekeeping, groundskeeping, bookkeeping… I had great mentors on the program who taught me professionalism and how to take care of guests. I'm excited to have been part of a first-class IHG program.” Since completing IHG Academy, Jane has joined the food and beverage team as a part-time colleague where she showcases the skills she developed and perfected during her time in the program.
What do you plan to do after your work experience placement? Has your IHG Academy work experience helped your future career plans?

“Gavin Wilson started with us back in May, he did not want to work in the dish room, however, he took the only open position in our hotel at that time: the dish room.
Since that time, he has learned prep in the kitchen, cooking on the grill, working in banquets and wait for it… after 6 months of giving his time, he has been promoted to his dream job: working at the front desk. He is amazing, and I want to thank you for what you did by giving him a chance to learn, and thus, introducing him to me for employment with the Holiday Inn Vanderbilt. He has worked hard and is a great product of IHG's "room to be yourself" and "room to grow". We are so proud of him.”
