Spotlight on Crowne Plaza White Plains

By the end of 2020, IHG has committed to provide 30,000 - 40,000 talented individuals around the world with hospitality training through IHG® Academy. Whether it's work-experience placements, internships or apprenticeships, IHG Academy is our avenue for providing students, young professionals or those just looking to get into the hospitality industry with the training, development and support they need to be successful.

Take Owen Barton for example. Owen joined the banquet team at Crowne Plaza White Plains - Downtown in New York, US, in April 2019. During New Hire Orientation, Owen was like a sponge – learning and soaking up everything he could. Owen says he loved learning about IHG's history and, even with hearing issues, Owen has always felt supported at the hotel. Communicating with – and even teaching some of the Banquet team sign language – Owen it right in and has excelled in his first few months, so much so that he was offered a permanent position after his internship ended. For Owen, his IHG Academy experience was, hopefully, just the start of a long and successful career in hospitality – and at IHG!

Spotlight on Bank View School

Since September 2018 we have worked with The Holiday Inn Express in Liverpool's Royal Albert Dock as part of Liverpool City Council's 'Intern to Work' programme. The aim of the project is to give students the opportunity to acquire new skills, become more employable and eventually gain paid employment.

During the time we have had interns at the Holiday Inn Express we have worked extremely closely with General Manager, Helen Roberts. Helen has shown an unbelievable dedication to our students and the progress they have made has been in no small part due to the huge amount of support given to them by Helen and her staff in the hotel.

The students have gained experience in different aspects of the hotel industry such as housekeeping, food and beverage and Laundry. This has given them an insight into all departments of the hotel and allowed them to develop a number of different skills making them more employable and 'job ready'.

Bank View school couldn't be more proud of the interns and more grateful for the support shown to them by Helen and all staff at the Holiday Inn Express, Royal Albert Dock.
