How long have you worked for IHG?
I started working at the Holiday Inn Bristol - Filton as a Breakfast Assistant seven years ago. Four years later, as an undergraduate student of the Ecole hôtelière de Lausanne, I was chosen to become one of IHG’s ‘Future Leaders’.
“IHG truly believes in investment in its people. Colleagues are frequently promoted within their own departments or into new departments – it’s very motivating.”
What were your first impressions of working here? What was your first day like?
On the first day of the Future Leaders Programme at the InterContinental Berchtesgaden Resort, I was invited to have breakfast with both the General Manager and the Human Resources Manager. This made me feel very welcome and valued. During my first two weeks I spent time with each department in the hotel, which gave me a good understanding of how the functions worked together.
How did you get the job at IHG? Have you had any other jobs at IHG?
I was interviewed for the opportunity to join the Future Leaders Programme, and then had to do some online tests and attend an assessment center before being accepted. Within two years, I had held four positions in three countries (England, Germany and France), across three different brands (Holiday Inn, InterContinental Hotels & Resorts and Hotel Indigo). This experience has given me a great understanding of the company as a whole, and I feel very lucky to have had this opportunity.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work? How have these things helped at work?
I enjoy sharing nice moments with friends, enjoying a delicious meal and good wine. I also like to travel –to discover new places and experience different cultures. I think travelling has helped me professionally when it came to adapting to work in other countries. It helped me to understand the individual working environment and to respect the local culture.
What does ‘Room to be Yourself’ mean to you?
This is about me being as passionate about my work as I am about my hobbies. It means not changing my personality during working hours. I believe that bringing the characteristics of a vibrant personality to the guest experience is what makes IHG hotels so unique.
