Raquel Rubio

Global Leadership Development Director

How long have you worked for IHG?

I joined IHG in 2003, straight after completing my degree in Hotel Management and masters in HR and Leadership Development, in Spain. My first role at IHG was as a HR Co-ordinator at the Holiday Inn Taunton in the UK. My placement was originally for 6 months, but I’ve been at IHG now for 11 years!

“For me, ‘Room to be yourself’ means that I am accepted for who I am at IHG - where my passions, my background, my opinions and my own way of doing things are recognised and embraced.”

What has been your career history to date at IHG?

From the Holiday Inn Taunton, I worked in HR Operations at Holiday Inn Bristol Filton, later moving to our Holiday Inn hotels at London-Heathrow. From here I then worked at the Holiday Inn London-Kensington Forum as Area HR Support for 6 hotels in Central London. I first worked in a corporate role in 2010 as a HR Manager for the Europe region, based at IHG’s Global Headquarters in Denham. In 2012 I had the opportunity to work in IHG’s Singapore office as Talent & Leadership Development Manager for that region, where I stayed for 18 months. I then came back to Denham in my current role as Director in the Global Talent & Leadership team.

What do you like about working at IHG?

I like that I work in such a diverse team, with people from all over the world with different experiences and personalities that I can learn from. I enjoy the opportunities to travel as well as my involvement in some fantastic projects. I am also very lucky in my role as I get to help people reach their potential every day, and that’s a privilege.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work? What are your hobbies and interests?

I love sports in general, and I have played in a female football team since I was 8 years old. Recently, I have started to enjoy yoga and meditation, which help to keep me focused. I also like musical theatre, dancing and singing which appeal to my creative side.

What's your best memory of working for IHG?

Arriving at IHG’s offices in Singapore for the very first time. Working in Asia had been a career ambition of mine for a long time, so being able to fulfil that with IHG has been very special.

Do you know where you want your IHG career to go?

I would love the opportunity to work in different markets, and continue to grow as a leader so that I can make a difference in the business. IHG provides its people with lots of opportunities for development and learning, and I feel that my career can go wherever I want it to here if I work hard and grab every opportunity that comes my way!
