Director, Sales and Service Operations - Salt Lake City & Mexico City Reservations Offices

How long have you worked for IHG? What were your first impressions of working here?

I have worked for IHG for 25 years.  My first impressions was that it felt like a very friendly place to work - where people truly cared about each other and seemed to be having fun.

“I’ve been given many opportunities to learn and grow here, which is one of the reasons I have stayed working for IHG for 25 years!”

Tell us about your career journey with IHG?

I have worked in Reservations and Customer Care for the entirety of my career. I started here as Reservation Sales Specialist, then continued my career as a Reservations Trainer, Reservations Team Manager, Human Resources Manager, Operations Manager, Regional Human Resources Manager and now as Director of Sales and Service Operations. One of the highlights during this time was the opportunity to spend eight weeks in Amsterdam opening a new Reservation Centre for Europe.

What are your hobbies and interests and how do they play a part in your working life?

I love music, and at Salt Lake we have created an IHG Band. I keep a guitar in my office and we play at company functions like Celebrate Service Week. I also am an avid bicycle commuter and work to spread the joy of cycling because of the many benefits. Through our cycling group at work, we have been recognised as a Bicycle Friendly Business by the League of American Bicyclists. We even have a "First time rider" Award we recognize new converts with!

What's your best memory of working for IHG?

I have had so many it’s difficult to choose just one. One of my best memories was taking a photo at a team meeting last year. I said at that time, "I want to take a picture to remember this team because I believe that in a year, this team won't be the same. You are some of the best people I have worked with and as such, you will be sought out by other people in our company and be given opportunities." In less than a year, three team members have been called upon for other roles. And that is what I see life at IHG is all about.

Do you know where you want your IHG career to go? How is IHG helping you to reach this goal?

I am relatively new in my current role and feel that I have so much to accomplish. I want my career to continue to be fresh, exciting and fulfilling and I have discovered over the years that this is more about what I am doing than the job title I hold. My colleagues at IHG support, challenge, and listen to me which makes me feel that I am an important part of our ambition.

What opportunities does IHG offer people in your job role? Is there a lot of training and development?

I have had the opportunity to continuously learn and develop. From a mentoring program that partnered me with a mentor in China, to the recently implemented Leading Others program, I have been able to continue to see things differently and challenge myself to seize opportunities.

What other ways does IHG help people to grow professionally?

The other big way I have been able to grow professionally has been the support I have received from IHG to participate in the community. Over the years, I have served on the Board of the Academy of Travel & Tourism of the Granite School District, I was the Chair of the Youth Advisory Group for the Utah Department of Workforce Services, I have become a founding member of the Valley West Rotary Club and most recently have been asked to serve on the Board of Big Brothers/Big Sister of Utah. None of this would have happened without the support of IHG.
